Individualized Day Supports (IDS): Personalized Days, Meaningful Experiences

At Health & Joy Services, our Individualized Day Supports (IDS) are designed to help each person explore, engage, and thrive in their community—on their own terms.

These services provide personalized, skill-building support that takes place entirely in the community—not in a center-based setting. Whether it’s volunteering, exploring local resources, enjoying recreational activities, or learning new skills for daily living, IDS focuses on creating opportunities that build independence and foster meaningful community connections.

Our trained and caring staff meet each person at an agreed-upon community location—whether that’s the lobby of their apartment building or a designated spot in the neighborhood—to begin their day filled with purpose and choice. Activities are guided by each person’s calendar and interests, ensuring that every day reflects their goals and preferences.

Supports may incorporate assistive and enabling technology to enhance independence, safety, and person-centered outcomes, such as tools that support scheduling, communication, navigation, or skill development—when appropriate and aligned with the Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Who Benefits from Individualized Day Supports?

IDS is ideal for people who:

  • Want to participate in structured learning activities out in the community

  • Are transitioning into retirement and want to stay engaged

  • Have an interest in volunteerism and giving back

  • Previously attended traditional day habilitation but now prefer a smaller, more personalized setting

Services may be provided as one-to-one support, in small groups, or through remote support models. Staffing ratios vary based on the service delivery method, individual needs, and DDS approval, including remote supports that may be provided at higher ratios (up to 1:6) when appropriate and authorized.

With IDS, every day offers a chance for growth, choice, and connection—because community living should be as unique as the person living it.
